Tired of your old kitchen?

Ackerman & Sons has refinished the kitchens in some of the finest homes in Denver and surrounding areas. This is a very specialized endeavor that requires expertise and experience. We start by giving an in home estimate of the cost and color options. Some kitchens can be refinished in any shade or tone the client desires. Other kitchens, because of the wood used, or prior stains, must return close to their original color. Sometimes new door and drawer faces are suggested, and the cabinet faces and sides are painted or finished to correlate.

Next, the doors and drawer faces come into the shop to be stripped and refinished. If the drawer faces cannot be removed, the entire drawer is taken in. This step normally takes approximately two weeks. Then, a full crew works in the home masking off adjacent walls, floors and windows. They also mask off the cabinet interiors, allowing dishes and sundries to remain inside during refinishing. Ventilation is supplied, and any source of sparking or open flame is dealt with.

The cabinet faces and returns, as well as window trim mold and kitchen doors if desired, are then hand stripped. All surfaces are sanded and detailed prior to being custom stained. Sealer coats are applied, and all surfaces are brought to final color using an aniline dye. Final coats follow, adjusted to the desired sheen and reflectivity. Finally the newly finished doors and drawer faces are reinstalled in their original locations. This entire process normally takes two to four days, during which the kitchen is not usable.

For the best finish possible, we use only Magnalac, a catalyzed lacquer by Pratt and Lambert. Highly water and chemical resistant, Magnalac offers supperior strength and durability, along with a depth and clarity seldom found in other finishes.
