Restored Seth Thomas clock
When we posted about the Seth Thomas antique clock that came into the shop in September, we stated that we’d update the blog when the project was finished.
Well, here it is! We had to do some extensive laminating on the front face, rebuilding of the case in some areas, we built an entirely new base, we hand etched the scroll work, and refinished the entire case. The spring-powered movement was repaired by Rocky Mountain Clocks.
In it’s un-repaired state, the clock’s value for insurance purposes was estimated at $350 – $450. Once the restoration was complete, the insured value jumped to $900 – $1300.
As we’ve stated in the past, restoring antiques does not automatically de-value them becaue a new finish or repair has been made – if the piece is in a degraded state, it is not worth it’s full value until it has been restored.
